Drumbeat Contracts: Get 'Em While They're, Umm, Hot · 275 words posted 04/02/2004 06:26 AM
Five years ago, Drumbeat helped me get into building web applications. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the program, Drumbeat provided true drag and drop functionality for creating layouts as well as programming ASP. Created by Elemental Software and purchased by Macromedia, Drumbeat was eventually discontinued and some of its features folded into Dreamweaver UltraDev (now Dreamweaver MX Studio 2004).
Drumbeat could be extended with “Contracts,” bits of JavaScript that worked like Dreamweaver extensions. I used to write Drumbeat contracts, especially to extend the shopping cart of the eStore edition, and much to my amazement several people have searched my site for Drumbeat contracts in the past few weeks! I don’t know who you are, but I’m re-posting a few Drumbeat contracts for you.
Download the zipped Drumbeat contracts.
Please note:
- I no longer have Drumbeat installed, so I can’t assist you with these contracts.
- I provide these contracts “as is.” My JavaScript of five years ago was not so hot, and though I haven’t received any reports of problems with these contracts, you use them at your own risk.
Coincidentally, one of the contracts fixes the omission of Washington, DC from a US state combobox. It’s funny to see that Macromedia has been making the same mistake for 4 or 5 years. Leaving DC out of a combobox is the sort of oversight that—if it affects you—really drives you nuts, and if it doesn’t affect you, makes you wonder “Why is that guy so uptight?” Macromedia is distributing an incomplete list of states in an XML file with Flex, so you can expect to see DC-free comboboxes on a site near you any day now…
